Ramble

Features

Everything Ramble does, and what it does not.

What Ramble does today, and what it doesn't. Screenshots are of the real app.

Capture

Say it, upload it or paste it. Every route ends in the same filed memo.

The Ramble timeline: memos grouped by day, each with its title and highlights.
Every capture route lands on the timeline.
Record
Press R or the red button. Live dictation comes from your browser's speech recognition, and the audio is kept alongside the transcript. Space pauses and resumes.
Upload audio
A file is transcribed on your device by Whisper (onnx-community/whisper-base) in a web worker. The first run downloads the model files from Hugging Face, about 80 MB. Your audio is not uploaded.
Paste or type
Paste text you already wrote. The composer autosaves text, mood and date in your browser, so a closed tab does not lose them.
When and how it felt
Set when a thought happened, and a mood from 1 to 5, as you save.

Organize

Fixed rules on your device file each memo. Your words stay the source of truth.

Title, highlights and topics
Every memo gets a three to eight word title, two to four highlight sentences and short topic tags. The rules are deterministic: the same text gives the same result.
To-dos, ideas, decisions, questions
Phrases such as “I need to”, “we decided” and “what if” become items in their own lists. Edit, add or check off any of them.
Projects
A project has a name and optional keywords. A memo that mentions one is filed under it automatically.
Saved searches
Keep up to 20 searches and run them again from the search page or the command palette. They are stored in this browser only and are not synced.
Pins and undo
Pinned memos stay at the top of the timeline. Delete a memo and you have 6 seconds to undo it.

Timeline
Memos grouped by day, newest first.
Calendar
Days tinted by mood, with a side panel for the selected day. Copy or download a day as Markdown.
Weekly digest
Counts, top topics, highlights, what came out of the week and a mood line. Printable, and exportable as Markdown.
Looking back
On the app home page, memos from a month, six months and one to five years ago. “Hide for today” puts it away until tomorrow.
Weekly review
Five steps: look back, go through open to-dos (done, keep or drop, with Undo), questions, decisions, then reflect. Your reflection is saved as a memo tagged “weekly review”. Open it from the digest or the command palette.
Stats
A look at your recent activity.

Own your data

Your memos live in your browser unless you choose otherwise.

Settings: export, protect my memos, delete all data.
Local first
Storage is IndexedDB in your browser. No account is needed.
Export and import
Export everything as JSON and import it back; the merge is by id. Export a day or a digest as Markdown. Import Ramble Markdown exports or plain .md notes, with a preview first; memos you already have from an export are skipped. Backups do not include audio.
Encrypted backup
Protect a backup with a passphrase. It is encrypted in your browser (PBKDF2-SHA-256, 600,000 iterations, then AES-256-GCM). The passphrase is never stored or sent, and nobody can recover a lost one.
Protect my memos
A Settings switch asks the browser for persistent storage so it does not evict your data. If the device runs out of space, Ramble says so.
Optional sync
Point Ramble at your own Supabase project and sign in. Memos and audio then live there, protected by row-level security.
Install and offline
Install it from your browser. A service worker caches the app shell; offline coverage is reliable from the second load.
Light and dark
Theme follows your device, or you can pick one in Settings.

Try it on your own words.

Open Ramble in your browser and start talking. No account, no download.
