Your memos live on your device.

Ramble is built so that it works without sending your words to us. This page explains, in plain language, what stays on your device and what can leave it.

Your browser’s speech service

Live transcription uses your browser’s speech service, which may process audio on the browser maker’s servers.

Who can read itYour browser’s speech provider may process the audio; Ramble does not run that service. How to deleteDelete the saved memo in Ramble. For audio processed by the speech service, consult that provider’s retention and deletion policy.
SyncWhere it lives

Not on this site

Cross-device sync isn’t set up on this site, so your journal stays in this browser. Live transcription is still the exception above. Run your own copy with a Supabase project to sync across devices.

Who can read itNo synced copy is stored by this site. How to deleteThere is no synced copy to delete. Use Delete all data in Settings for this browser’s journal.

Without an account

Memos, transcripts, audio, to-dos, ideas, decisions, projects and mood check-ins are stored in your browser’s local database (IndexedDB) on this device. Your last few searches and a local error log (no memo text) are kept in the browser’s local storage. Ramble has no copy of any of them, and Delete all data in Settings clears them too.

Organizing (finding to-dos, ideas, decisions, open questions, highlights and topics, and filing memos into projects) is done by code running in your browser.

Transcription

Uploaded audio files are transcribed by the Whisper speech model, which is downloaded once and runs inside your browser.

Your data, your call

You can export everything to a JSON file at any time, import it elsewhere, or clear it from the device. Ramble is open source under the MIT License, so you can check every claim on this page in the source code.
